During the talks held on Dec. 15-16, the two secretaries of state approached the current stage of the prospects for development of the Romania-Iraq relations. Both parties stressed their interest in further enhancing cooperation in all sectors, with emphasis on the economic cooperation, especially in the energy and agriculture fields, as well as on diversifying and reinforcing projects in terms of education and culture.
At the same time, the two dignitaries discussed extensively about the current regional and international context, especially about the latest developments in Iraq and how these events affect the regional and international security. Emphasis was put on the major security risks generated by the actions of the ISIL terrorist organization, at regional and global level, as well as the worsening situation in Syria.
In this context, Burlacu reiterated Romania’s and the European Union’s support for Iraq’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as solidarity with the Baghdad authorities in fighting ISIL and managing the highly complex humanitarian situation in the region.AGERPRES
