Ghidul muzeelor şi colecţiilor din România reprezintă ceva mai mult decât o simplă actualizare a unor date administrate (şi ţinute la zi) pe o pagină de Internet. Este o carte de referinţă, pentru oricare profesionist al muzeelor, ca şi pentru cei care le sunt, pur şi simplu, apropiaţi. Ghidul reprezintă un moment de analiză a ceea ce au obţinut muzeografii români, la 17 ani de la răsturnarea regimului comunist. Momentul reprezintă, încă, unul care marchează începutul unei noi etape de dezvoltare. Expoziţiile permanente nu pot fi schimbate atât de uşor.

Pentru multe muzee din România, problema înnoirii expoziţiilor permanente a fost una legată nu doar de eliberarea de barierele
ideologice, ci şi de posibilitatea alegerii unor maniere de expunere mai apropiate de public (cele audiovizuale, în primul rând), de posibilitatea utilizării unor materiale mai performante şi de conexarea expoziţiilor cu celelalte mijloace de expresie muzeală (prin conferinţe, lecţii etc.).

Cel puţin primii şase – şapte ani, după 1989, au însemnat ani de acumulări, de studii, de schimburi de experienţă, de reaşezare a ideilor şi, totodată, de schimb de generaţii. Apoi, de prin 1997, structurile organizaţionale ale muzeelor au început să se schimbe. Corespunzător, acest lucru a început să se vadă în activitatea muzeelor şi chiar în modul de etalare a expoziţiilor temporare şi permanente. Acum, la sfârşitul lui 2006, putem spune că majoritatea muzeelor româneşti au atins un grad de maturitate suficient de înalt, încât să ne permită să facem o evaluare: încotro s-au dezvoltat muzeele din România, ce modele au urmat, ce direcţii îşi propun.

Ghidul muzeelor şi colecţiilor din România ne oferă o oglindă destul de exactă a situaţiei muzeelor din România. Este o oglindă cu două feţe: pe de o parte, fiecare muzeu este prezentat cu o scurtă „fişă“ istorică; pe de altă parte, prezentarea expoziţiilor curente poate sugera dezvoltarea viitoare a muzeelor.

The Guide to the Museums and Collections in Romania

The Guide to the Museums and Collections in Romania is more than a mere updating of data managed (and updated) on an Internet page. It is a reference book, for any museum professional, and for those keen on museums. The Guide is a landmark for the achievements of the Romanian curators, seventeen years after the upheaval that put an end to the communist regime.
This landmark is also symbolic for a new development stage. The permanent exhibitions cannot be changed that easily.

For many museums in Romania, the issue of renewing the permanent exhibitions relates not only to the emancipation from ideological constraints, but also an opportunity to choose friendlier display designs (first of all, audiovisual ones), a possibility to use more efficient material and to connect the exhibitions to the other means of presentation (conferences, lectures, etc.). At least for six, seven years after 1989, we gathered information and undertook studies; we exchanged experience, reconsidered out ideas and let the new generation settle in. Then, since 1997, the organisational structures of the museums have undergone changes.

Those have become apparent in the activity of the museums and even in the display of the temporary and permanent exhibitions. Currently, at the end of 2006, we can say that most Romanian museums are mature enough to allow an evaluation: the development pattern the Romanian museums adopted, and followed, and their trends.

The Guide to the Museums and Collections in Romania mirrors the situation of the Romanian museums. We can look both ways: on the one hand, each museum is presented in a short “historical” file; on the other hand, the presentation of the current exhibitions might suggest the subsequent development of the museums.
